HeartCode^TMBasic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) Online Part 1

Purpose/Intended Audience:

Initial or Renewal: To be used by healthcare providers across disciplines as an alternative means of completing the cognitive or lecture (Part 1) requirements of the American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers program. Valid for initial and update (renewal) courses. This Web-based eLearning course provides the cognitive portion (Part 1) of the Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers course. Course participants who successfully complete Part 1 receive a certificate granting them entrance to a skills practice session (Part 2) and skills test (Part 3) with a certified American Heart Association instructor, which the participant must pass to qualify for a BLS for Healthcare Providers course completion card.

Course Description:

HeartCode^TM BLS part 1 is a web-based eLearing program that uses eSimulation technology to present interactive, realistic patient scenarios. This course is designed to prepare a wide variety of healthcare professionals to recognize several life-threatening emergencies and to perform CPR, as well as use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner.

Providers are presented with BLS adult and infant lessons, mini-games, and realistic patient cases in which they are required to interact with the program. Providers also have access to the AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers student manual within the program. At the end of the patient scenarios learners are presented wtih a detailed step-by-step debriefing of correct and incorrect actions, with hyperlinks back to related text in the student manual.

Successful completion of the self paced, online component (Part 1 - Cognitive), paired with skills verification (Parts 2 and 3, practice and testing) meets the requirements for the issuing of an AHA BLS Healthcare Providers card to the participant. Practice and testing sessions can be provided by an AHA BLS Instructor or a HeartCode^TM voice-assisted manikin system (VAM).

Upon registration and payment confirmation Benchmark will issue the registrant the necessary information to complete the online course.
